Never did I think I would be riding on an open-air bus getting a personal tour of San Martin Park in Mendoza while singing along to “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina”!! This trip was amazing in all regards. It was culture, history, agriculture, sightseeing, food, wine and camaraderie – by the end of the trip it felt like family with our group and our Argentine hosts. Thank you, Tony for a once in a lifetime experience! (But I would go again in a heartbeat.).
The trip to Argentina was awesome. I’ve loved Argentine wines for a long time so to get to visit several wineries there was a dream come true. In addition to the wines, we got to experience the culture, the food scene and the beautiful city sites of Mendoza as well as taking excursions outside the city for sightseeing. The daily activities planned by Tony and his Mendoza colleagues, David and Jose, were extraordinary. This trip was not only fun but it was a learning experience with plenty of discussion about wine, culture and geography along with plenty of laughter thrown in for good measure. The preplanning Tony provided for the trip was very thorough and helpful. You can’t go wrong with Root to Stem Wine Tours.
I love traveling with Tony! He made my first trip to Argentina a trip of a lifetime. His deep knowledge of the region and the art of winemaking made every vineyard visit come alive. We enjoyed magnificent meals right in the vineyards, and Tony explained the nuances of great wine in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. Beyond hi expertise, his wonderful personality, patience, and calm handling of travel and logistics made the entire experience seamless. Truly a fantastic teacher and leader-I’d travel with him again in a heartbeat!!
I have had the privilege of being on two international tours with Dr. Tony Johnston. The first was in spring of ‘22 to Italy for a study abroad trip with Middle Tennessee State University. The second trip was a Root to Stem Wine tour to Mendoza, Argentina in Spring of ‘25. Both trips were not only educational and informative but the choices of lodging, restaurants and excursions were excellent. Dr. Johnston is an excellent communicator before, during and after each trip. His partnership with the Mendoza team was very collaborative and fun. I will be taking future trips with Root to Stem Wine Tours with Dr. Johnston.
I had never experienced a trip planned by the TNWINEDR and it was the best and easiest trip I could have been on for my first. EVERYTHING is handled and all you have to do is pack your bag and follow the leader. Once you arrive, he meets you and the rest is on auto pilot. It’s covered from accommodations, meals and of course the entertainment for where ever you chose to join him. I will not travel without him now. So don’t hesitate just GO!!
Going to Mendoza Argentina with Dr. Tony Johnston was truly a trip of a lifetime adventure! Aside from a couple of cruises to areas of Mexico, this was my first really big trip out of the country! The hotel our group stayed in was not a huge fancy brand name hotel, but it was a great place to call home while in Mendoza. All the different locations and wineries our group went to were amazing! Tony is very knowledgeable in all the aspects of the culture, customs, and cuisine of Mendoza. My favorite part of the trip was going up on the mountain to a quaint restaurant run by an elderly gentleman and his family. We learned how to make empanadas. Asado(barbecue) was prepared for us in a kiln oven. We enjoyed eating our empanadas and asado with their own beer and some wine. I highly recommend going on a trip with Dr. Tony Johnston and his company, Root to Stem Tours!
